Product compliance software

Pareo is product compliance software for industrial manufacturers. A customer request about REACH, RoHS, SCIP or material content arrives in whatever form the customer chose. Agents match it against your product, supplier and ERP data, and a validated answer goes back with an audit trail behind every field.

§01

What this category of software does

Product compliance software is the system of record for what a product is made of and which rules that composition touches. It holds parts, bills of material and substances, keeps them beside the regulatory lists that change underneath them, and produces the documents customers and authorities ask for.

The same category is sold as material compliance software, or as compliance automation for manufacturers. The work it takes over is repetitive rather than difficult: collecting composition data from suppliers, and passing the relevant part of it on to customers.

  • Product and substance data. Parts, bills of material, substances by CAS number, concentrations, and the supplier document each figure came from.
  • Regulatory lists. The REACH Candidate List, which ECHA updates about twice a year, the RoHS restricted substances, and the other lists a product is measured against.
  • Outgoing evidence. Declarations, questionnaire responses, and the trail showing where each answer came from.

How Pareo works

One request, four steps. Nothing has to be re-keyed into a template before the work starts.

  • A request arrives. Email, an Excel questionnaire, a portal notification, a PDF or an IPC-1752A form. The format is the customer's choice, not yours.
  • Agents read it. The request is broken into the questions it actually asks: which parts, which regulations, which substances, and which format the answer has to come back in.
  • It is matched against your data. Each question is resolved against your product records, your supplier declarations and connected ERP or PLM data, with the source document kept beside every value.
  • A validated answer goes back. Drafted in the format the customer asked for, with a field-level trail from each statement to the document behind it. A person reviews and releases it.
§03

Which regulations are in scope

Pareo covers the EU rules behind most incoming requests in industrial manufacturing.

  • REACH. Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Article 33 requires suppliers of articles to communicate down the supply chain, and to consumers on request, when an article contains a Candidate List SVHC above 0.1 % by weight. Article 7(2) adds a notification to ECHA where required.
  • RoHS. Directive 2011/65/EU restricts ten substances in electrical and electronic equipment at 0.1 % by weight in each homogeneous material, with cadmium at 0.01 %.
  • SCIP. The ECHA database established under the Waste Framework Directive. It has applied since 5 January 2021 to articles placed on the EU market containing a Candidate List SVHC above 0.1 % by weight.
  • POPs. Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants, a separate and stricter regime.
  • Conflict minerals. Regulation (EU) 2017/821, in force since 1 January 2021, together with the CMRT and EMRT templates that carry the data through the chain.

§04

How it sits next to ERP and PLM

ERP knows what you buy and sell. PLM knows how the product is designed. Neither was built to hold substance-level composition against lists that move twice a year, and neither answers a customer's questionnaire in the customer's format.

Pareo reads part numbers, bills of material and supplier records from the systems that own them, and adds the layer above: substance data, the assessment against each list, and the evidence trail. Nothing goes back to a customer that a person has not released.

§05

What it does not do

A material declaration is not a proof of compliance. It gives the receiver the data to judge compliance themselves. The legal conformity decision stays with the receiver, and with the manufacturer placing the product on the market.

Pareo produces evidence and answers. It is not a certification body, it issues no conformity assessments, and it does not stand in for the qualified people who sign them. What is published here and in the Pareo knowledge base is general reference material about the rules, not an assessment of any individual case.
